I’ve made some collaborative documentaries with various communities in various styles, and I’m working on my Doctorate in Queer and Feminist approaches to making films. Queer and Feminist filmmakers are often collaborative, and often focused on the process as well as the product.
Next year I’ll be working on a film in collaboration with a queer and transgender friend of mine, traveling to regional towns and outer-suburbs to try to get a picture of queer life outside urban metropolises. I’ll interview my friend as a way to start the process, and then we will collaboratively interview other people along the road to a drag festival called The Broken Heel Festival in a mining town called Broken Hill in western New South Wales, Australia.
I’m really interested in hearing about the collaborative processes of other filmmakers, if anybody would like to share?
